What does this fault code mean?
The ECM monitors the B-side mass air flow sensor signal. The code is stored when the signal is too high, too low or otherwise incorrect. Here the signal lies outside the expected range, and the result can be that engine torque is limited.
Possible causes
- Poor contact, high resistance or corrosion in the connections
- Break in the signal wire
- Signal wire shorted to supply voltage
- Signal wire shorted to ground
What you can do
- 1Read and note the code, clear it and road test to see whether it returns
- 2Check that the connectors at the B-side mass air flow sensor are fully engaged and free from oxidation and play
- 3With a multimeter, check that the signal wire has no break and is not shorted to ground or supply voltage
- 4If you have diagnostic equipment, read the B-side sensor value in live data at idle and check that it follows engine load
- 5If the fault remains, have a workshop check the B-side mass air flow sensor
Symptoms you may notice3
- Engine warning lamp (check engine) lit or behaving abnormally
- The car lacks power and runs poorly
- Text message in the display
What the fault can affect2
- Engine torque may be limited
- A calculated air mass value is used instead of the measured value
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
