What does this fault code mean?
The ECM monitors the B-side mass air flow sensor signal and stores the code when the signal is too high, too low or wrong. The fault here is that the B-circuit signal is too low.
Possible causes
- The B-side air flow signal is too low
What you can do
- 1Read and note the code, clear it and road test to see whether it returns
- 2Check that the connectors at the B-side mass air flow sensor are fully engaged and free from oxidation
- 3With a multimeter, check that the signal wire has no break
- 4Look for chafed wiring near the B-side mass air flow sensor
- 5If the fault remains, have a workshop check the B-side mass air flow sensor
Symptoms you may notice2
- The car lacks power and runs poorly
- The engine hesitates or surges during acceleration, deceleration and steady speed
What the fault can affect2
- The control module works out air mass instead of using the measured value
- Engine torque may be limited
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
