What does this fault code mean?
The ECM keeps checking that the mass air flow sensor signal is plausible. The code is stored when the signal is faulty, and in this case the voltage is too low. The fault concerns the comparison between the A-side and B-side mass air flow sensors, and it is mainly felt as poor performance.
Possible causes
- Voltage from the mass air flow sensor is too low
What you can do
- 1Read and note the code, clear it and road test to see whether it returns
- 2Check that the connectors at the mass air flow sensors are fully engaged and free from oxidation and play
- 3With a multimeter, check that the supply wire to the mass air flow sensor has no break
- 4Look for chafed wiring between the sensors and the engine control module
- 5If the fault remains, have a workshop check the mass air flow sensors
Symptoms you may notice1
- The car runs poorly and lacks power
What the fault can affect2
- Engine torque may be limited
- The control module works out air mass instead of using the sensor reading
