What does this fault code mean?
The ECM measures the intake air temperature with an air temperature sensor in the intake pipe and checks the sensor's DC voltage. The code is stored when an incorrect value persists for a set time or over two or more consecutive drive cycles.
Possible causes
- Break in the signal or ground wire
- Contact resistance and oxidation in the connections
- Signal wire shorted to supply voltage
- Damaged intake air temperature sensor, including the one inside the mass air flow sensor
What you can do
- 1Read and note the code, clear it and road test to see whether it returns
- 2Check the connector at the sensor, which sits in the boost pressure sensor, for contact resistance and oxidation
- 3With a multimeter, check that the signal wire has no break and is not shorted to supply voltage
- 4If you have diagnostic equipment, read the intake air temperature in live data at idle and check that it is reasonable
- 5If the code returns after clearing and a road test, have a workshop replace the boost pressure sensor
Symptoms you may notice1
- The eco indicator lamp in the instrument panel lights up
What the fault can affect1
- The control module uses the fuel temperature in place of the intake air temperature
