What does this fault code mean?
The ECM compares the air temperature sensor value in the intake pipe with the engine, outside and fuel temperature values once the engine has stood switched off for a long while. The code is stored when the values differ too much from each other. The fault may lie in contact resistance or in a damaged air temperature sensor inside the mass air flow sensor.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance in the connector terminal
- Damaged air temperature sensor inside the mass air flow sensor
What you can do
- 1Read and note the code, clear it and road test to see whether it returns
- 2Start the engine and, with diagnostic equipment, check the intake air temperature in live data; if it is reasonable, the fault may have been temporary and is not active right now
- 3Check that the connector at the mass air flow sensor sits firmly and is free from contact resistance and oxidation
- 4If the fault remains and the temperature reading is unreasonable, have a workshop check the mass air flow sensor
Symptoms you may notice2
- The eco indicator lamp in the instrument panel lights up
- Engine warning lamp (check engine) lit or behaving abnormally
What the fault can affect1
- The intake air temperature is replaced by the fuel temperature
