What does this fault code mean?
At engine start the ECM stores the intake, fuel and engine temperature values and compares them with the air temperature sensor reading. The code is stored when that reading corresponds to a temperature that exceeds a set limit compared with the others.
Possible causes
- Damaged air temperature sensor
- Contact resistance or oxidation in the air temperature sensor connections
What you can do
- 1Read and note the code, clear it and road test to see whether it returns
- 2If you have diagnostic equipment, compare the intake and outside temperature values in live data straight after a cold start; they should be close together
- 3Check the air temperature sensor connector for loose contact, contact resistance and oxidation
- 4If the reading is unreasonable, the fault is present; otherwise it may have been temporary
- 5If the fault remains, have a workshop check the sensor
Symptoms you may notice3
- The eco indicator lamp in the instrument panel lights up
- The engine is hard to start
- The car has reduced performance
What the fault can affect1
- The intake air temperature is replaced with the value from the outside air temperature sensor
