What does this fault code mean?
The ECM weighs the mass air flow sensor temperature reading against coolant, outside, boost and oil temperature values. Here the air temperature is too low compared with those values, and the code is stored when the difference is too large.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance in the connector terminal
- Mass air flow sensor with the air temperature sensor inside is damaged
What you can do
- 1Read and note the code, clear it and road test to see whether it returns
- 2Start the engine and, with diagnostic equipment, check that the air temperature in live data is reasonable; if it is not, the fault is present
- 3Check the mass air flow sensor connector for contact resistance and oxidation
- 4If the fault remains, have a workshop check the mass air flow sensor
Symptoms you may notice1
- Engine warning lamp (check engine) lit or behaving abnormally
What the fault can affect1
- The outside air temperature from the sensor in the rear-view mirror is used instead
