What does this fault code mean?
The ECM keeps watch on the intake temperature read by the mass air flow sensor, comparing it with other temperature values once the engine has been parked for a long period. The code is stored when the air temperature from the mass air flow sensor is too high compared with those values. The fault concerns the bank 1 sensor.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance in the connector terminal
- Mass air flow sensor and intake air temperature sensor are damaged
What you can do
- 1Read and note the code, clear it and road test to see whether it returns
- 2At engine start, read the air temperature in live data and compare it with the outside air; a clear difference means the fault is present
- 3Check the mass air flow sensor connector for contact resistance and oxidation
- 4If the fault remains, have a workshop check the mass air flow sensor
Symptoms you may notice1
- Engine warning lamp (check engine) lit or behaving abnormally
What the fault can affect1
- The outside air temperature from the sensor in the rear-view mirror is used instead
