What does this fault code mean?
The control module checks the signal from the intake temperature sensor under two different driving conditions: first with high airflow while travelling, then with the vehicle stationary at idle. If the temperature difference between the two measurement points becomes unreasonably small, the fault code is set. The mass air flow sensor and the air temperature sensor are one and the same component.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance in the connector
- Damaged air temperature sensor inside the mass air flow sensor
What you can do
- 1Read and note the fault code, clear it, then road test the vehicle to see whether it returns
- 2Check the connector to the mass air flow sensor: it should be firmly seated and free from corrosion and moisture
- 3If you have a diagnostic tool: follow the air temperature in live data while driving at higher speed and then at idle. It should differ between the two driving conditions
- 4If the connector is in order and the fault remains, have a workshop check or replace the mass air flow sensor
