What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) monitors the intake temperature using the mass air flow sensor and the intake air temperature sensor. During one driving cycle the value has stayed still within a limited range, even though the temperature normally changes during varied driving. The sensor is built into the mass air flow sensor, so it is the same unit that also measures airflow.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance in the connector
- Damaged mass air flow sensor or intake air temperature sensor
What you can do
- 1Read and note the fault code, clear it, then road test the vehicle at varied speeds to see whether it returns
- 2Check the connector to the mass air flow sensor: it should be firmly seated and free from corrosion and moisture
- 3If you have a diagnostic tool: follow the air temperature in live data while driving. If it stays still, the fault is probably still present
- 4If the connector is in order and the fault remains, have a workshop check or replace the mass air flow sensor
Symptoms you may notice1
- The Check engine light comes on or behaves abnormally
What the fault can affect3
- The control module uses a calculated value for the air temperature
- The air temperature in the mass air flow sensor is set equal to the temperature between the turbocharger and throttle
- The outside temperature is taken from the sensor in the rear view mirror
