What does this fault code mean?
The control module keeps checking the signal from the temperature element inside the mass air flow sensor. If the signal is too high, the fault code is set, which indicates that the air temperature sensor may be damaged.
Possible causes
- Damaged air temperature sensor inside the mass air flow sensor
- Contact resistance or oxidation in the connector
What you can do
- 1Read the diagnostic and fault status with the ignition on, check the fault is not active, then clear the code and road test the vehicle
- 2Check the connector to the mass air flow sensor: it should be firmly seated and free from oxidation and contact resistance
- 3With the ignition off, use a multimeter to check that the signal cable is not short-circuited to positive
- 4If the connector is in order and the fault remains, the sensor is likely damaged. Have a workshop check or replace the mass air flow sensor
Symptoms you may notice1
- The engine has poor performance and lacks power
What the fault can affect2
- Engine torque may be limited
- The control module uses a calculated value for the air temperature
