What does this fault code mean?
The control module watches engine temperature with one sensor. If the sensor value does not change at all during engine warm-up, the fault code is set.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance in the connector
- Damaged engine temperature sensor
What you can do
- 1Read the fault code status with the ignition on and check whether the fault is active. Then clear the code
- 2Check that the fuses are intact
- 3Check the connector at the engine temperature sensor for contact resistance and oxidation
- 4If you have a diagnostic tool: read the engine temperature in live data during warm-up. A value that does not change at all suggests the sensor is damaged
- 5After a repair, road test the vehicle from a cold start and check that the fault code does not return
Symptoms you may notice1
- The Check engine light comes on or behaves abnormally
What the fault can affect1
- The control module uses a calculated temperature instead of the sensor's
