What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) compares the value from the coolant temperature sensor with an estimated value. If the value deviates too much from the estimate, the fault code is set.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance in the connector
- Damaged engine temperature sensor
What you can do
- 1Read the fault code status with the ignition on and check whether the fault is active. Then clear the code and road test the vehicle
- 2Check the connector at the engine temperature sensor for contact resistance and oxidation
- 3If you have a diagnostic tool: read the engine temperature in live data while driving. A value that does not follow engine load and warm-up suggests the sensor may be damaged
- 4If the connector is in order and the fault remains, have a workshop check or replace the engine temperature sensor
Symptoms you may notice1
- No noticeable symptoms for the driver
What the fault can affect1
- A calculated engine temperature is used
