What does this fault code mean?

The engine control module (ECM) checks the analogue signal from the accelerator pedal position sensor. If the signal is faulty, the fault code is set, and the engine response to the throttle can be affected.

    Possible causes

    • Open circuit in the signal cable or signal ground cable
    • Contact resistance or oxidation in the terminals
    • Signal cable shorted to supply voltage
    • Damaged accelerator pedal position sensor
    • A fault in the CAN network communication

    What you can do

    1. 1Read the fault code status with the ignition on and check whether the fault is active. Then clear the code and road test the vehicle
    2. 2Check the connector at the accelerator pedal for contact resistance and oxidation
    3. 3Check that the fuses are intact
    4. 4If you have a diagnostic tool: read the accelerator pedal position in live data while pressing the pedal down slowly. The value should follow the pedal smoothly
    5. 5If the fault remains, have a workshop check the accelerator pedal, the wiring and the communication on the CAN network

    Symptoms you may notice2

    • Poor response from the accelerator
    • A message is shown in the display

    What the fault can affect3

    • Engine output is limited
    • The control module uses the other signal if one signal is faulty
    • Cruise control is switched off while the fault is active
