What does this fault code mean?
Throttle position sensor A sends a signal that is too high, and the fault code is then set. The fault can affect throttle response and cruise control.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance or oxidation in the terminals
- Voltage feed short-circuited to battery voltage
- Open circuit in the ground cable
- Ground cable short-circuited to voltage
- Damaged throttle unit
What you can do
- 1Read the fault code status with the ignition on and check whether the fault is active. Then clear the code and road test the vehicle
- 2Check that the connectors at the throttle unit are firmly seated without play and free from contact resistance and oxidation
- 3With the connector unplugged, use a multimeter to check that the ground cable has no open circuit and is not short-circuited to supply voltage
- 4If you have a diagnostic tool: read the throttle position values in live data with the engine running and see whether they follow the accelerator pedal
- 5If the connector and wiring are in order and the fault remains, have a workshop check or replace the throttle unit
Symptoms you may notice4
- Cruise control does not engage
- The engine has poor performance
- The engine has poor performance and lacks power
- The engine hesitates, surges or runs unevenly at steady speed
What the fault can affect2
- If one of the signals is faulty, the other signal is used
- Cruise control is switched off while the fault is active
