What does this fault code mean?
This code means the intake air temperature is too high. It can be caused by a damaged mass air flow sensor or intake air temperature sensor, or by a defective EGR cooler that gives too high exhaust temperatures.
Possible causes
- The mass air flow sensor and the intake air temperature sensor are damaged
- Defective EGR cooler, which can give too high exhaust temperatures
What you can do
- 1Read the fault code status with the ignition on and check whether the fault is active. Then clear the code and road test the vehicle
- 2Check the connector at the mass air flow sensor for contact resistance and oxidation
- 3If you have a diagnostic tool: compare air temperature in live data with coolant and fuel temperatures. A value that is too high suggests the fault is still present
- 4If the connector is in order and the fault remains, have a workshop check the mass air flow sensor and the EGR cooler
Symptoms you may notice3
- Driving with poor performance and lack of power
- The Check engine light comes on or behaves abnormally
- A text message is shown in the display
What the fault can affect1
- Exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) is not controlled
