What does this fault code mean?
This code concerns the front oxygen sensor (bank 1, sensor 1) when the voltage is too high while driving. It can be caused by the signal or ground cable being short-circuited to supply voltage, or by a damaged front oxygen sensor.
Possible causes
- Signal cable shorted to supply voltage
- Ground lead shorted to supply voltage
- Damaged front heated oxygen sensor (HO2S)
What you can do
- 1Read the fault code status with the ignition on and check whether the fault is active. Then clear the code and road test the vehicle
- 2With the connector unplugged at the oxygen sensor, use a multimeter to check that the signal and ground cables are not short-circuited to positive
- 3Check the connectors at the oxygen sensor for contact resistance and oxidation
- 4If the fault remains after these checks, have a workshop try a new front oxygen sensor
Symptoms you may notice1
- The Check engine light comes on or behaves abnormally
What the fault can affect2
- Front oxygen sensor control is switched off
- Catalyst diagnostics are switched off
