What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) monitors the heater in the front oxygen sensor in bank 1. The code is set when the signal to the sensor heater is incorrect, and here the wire has contact with voltage instead of the path it should have. The ECM uses the sensor signal to control the fuel/air mixture.
Possible causes
- The heater signal wire is shorted to supply voltage
- Damaged oxygen sensor
What you can do
- 1Read the code, clear it and road test the car to see whether it comes back
- 2Check that the fuse for the oxygen sensor heater is intact
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the wire to the sensor heater has no contact with battery voltage
- 4If the wire is intact, replace the front oxygen sensor
Symptoms you may notice1
- Check engine light (MIL) on
