What does this fault code mean?
Although the code is named for a high voltage, it concerns the signal from the oxygen sensor in bank 1, sensor 2, which is incorrect. The engine control module (ECM) uses the signal to assess the mixture in the exhaust and sets the code when it is incorrect, after the test has started. The ECM then calculates a value for the mixture instead.
Possible causes
- Signal shorted to voltage
- Damaged oxygen sensor
What you can do
- 1Read the code, clear it and road test the car to see whether it comes back
- 2Switch the ignition off and use a multimeter to check that the signal wire between the control module and the oxygen sensor has no open circuit
- 3Check that the signal wire has no contact with battery voltage
- 4If the wire is intact, replace the oxygen sensor
Symptoms you may notice1
- Check engine light (MIL) on
What the fault can affect1
- The engine control module uses a calculated value for the mixture
