What does this fault code mean?
The ECM monitors the rear oxygen sensor in bank 2, which sits in the cylinder row furthest back, near the passenger compartment. The ECM switches between rich and lean mixture and compares how well the sensor signal follows the changes. The code is set when the sensor reacts too slowly at the switch from rich to lean, in certain driving cases with fuel cut-off.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance or oxidation in the connections
- Damaged rear oxygen sensor
What you can do
- 1Read the code, clear it and road test the car to see whether it comes back
- 2Check the connector to the rear oxygen sensor in bank 2 for contact resistance and oxidation; do not use rust solvent spray or grease
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the wires to the sensor have no open circuit
- 4If the connector and wires are intact, replace the rear oxygen sensor in bank 2
Symptoms you may notice1
- Check engine light (MIL) on
