What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) checks the impedance in the signal circuit of the rear oxygen sensor in bank 1, sensor 3. The sensor should activate, and the code is set when it does not activate at all or activates too slowly.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance or oxidation in the connections
- Damaged rear oxygen sensor, sensor 3
What you can do
- 1Read the code, clear it and road test the car to see whether it comes back
- 2Check the connector to the sensor for contact resistance and oxidation; do not use rust solvent spray or grease
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the signal wire to the sensor has no open circuit
- 4If the connector and wire are intact, replace the rear oxygen sensor
Symptoms you may notice1
- Check engine light (MIL) on
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
