What does this fault code mean?
The rear oxygen sensor in bank 2, sensor 2, sits in the cylinder row furthest to the rear. The engine control module (ECM) controls the mixture between rich and lean and checks whether the sensor follows the switches. The code is set when the sensor reacts too slowly at the switch from rich to lean, in certain driving cases with fuel cut-off.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance or oxidation in the connections
- Damaged rear oxygen sensor
What you can do
- 1Read the code, clear it and road test the car to see whether it comes back
- 2Check the connector at the rear sensor in bank 2 for contact resistance and oxidation; do not use rust solvent spray or grease
- 3If the connector is clean and intact, replace the rear oxygen sensor in bank 2
Symptoms you may notice1
- Check engine light (MIL) on
