What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) measures the oxygen content in the exhaust before the catalytic converter using the front oxygen sensor in bank 2. The control module checks the sensor's direct voltage, and the code is set if an incorrect value lasts for a while. The code is only set if the fault has been present over two or more driving cycles in a row.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance and oxidation in the connections
- Signal wire shorted to ground
- Open circuit in the signal wire
- Damaged front oxygen sensor in bank 2
What you can do
- 1Read the code, clear it and road test the car to see whether it comes back
- 2Check the connectors at the front sensor in bank 2 for contact resistance and oxidation; do not use rust solvent spray or grease
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the signal wire has no open circuit and is not shorted to ground
- 4If the connectors and wire are intact, replace the front oxygen sensor in bank 2
Symptoms you may notice2
- Malfunction indicator light (MIL) on
- Poor performance
