What does this fault code mean?
Using the front oxygen sensor in bank 2, the engine control module (ECM) measures the oxygen content before the catalytic converter. The control module checks the sensor's direct voltage and sets the code when an incorrect value lasts for a while. The code is set when the fault recurs over two or more driving cycles in a row, and a higher voltage than expected in the signal is one of the possible causes.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance and oxidation in the connections
- Signal wire shorted to supply voltage
- Damaged front oxygen sensor in bank 2
What you can do
- 1Read the code, clear it and road test the car to see whether it comes back
- 2Check that the connectors at the front sensor in bank 2 are fully engaged and free from oxidation
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the signal wire has no contact with battery voltage
- 4If the connectors and wire are intact, replace the front oxygen sensor in bank 2
Symptoms you may notice2
- Malfunction indicator light (MIL) on
- Poor performance
