What does this fault code mean?

The code applies to bank 2, the cylinder row furthest to the rear. The ECM gets mixture information from the oxygen sensor across different load ranges, and the code is set when the mixture becomes too lean and the adaptations for bank 2 reach an end position.

    Possible causes

    • Too high ethanol content in the fuel
    • Air leak in the intake pipe
    • Air leak in the exhaust pipe
    • Low fuel pressure
    • Damaged mass air flow sensor
    • Incorrectly fitted or damaged oil dipstick, causing an air leak

    What you can do

    1. 1Read the code, clear it and road test the car to see whether it comes back
    2. 2Check the intake and exhaust systems for air leaks
    3. 3Check that the dipstick is seated correctly in its tube and that air does not leak around it
    4. 4If the fuel adaptations for bank 2 are clearly shifted towards lean at idle, this points to an air leak
    5. 5Have a workshop check the fuel pressure and the mass air flow sensor with diagnostic equipment

    Symptoms you may notice4

    • Check engine light (MIL) on
    • Poor performance
    • The engine misfires
    • High idle speed

General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
