What does this fault code mean?
While driving, the engine control module (ECM) compares the signal from the fuel temperature sensor with the intake and engine temperatures. The code is set when the signal deviates too much from the values of the other temperature sensors. The control module then uses a predefined value for the fuel temperature instead of the real one.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance or oxidation in the connections
- Damaged fuel temperature sensor
What you can do
- 1Read the code, clear it and road test the car to see whether it comes back
- 2If you have a diagnostic tool: read the fuel temperature in live data together with the outside and engine temperatures and see whether they agree
- 3Check the connector at the fuel pressure sensor for contact resistance and oxidation; do not use rust solvent spray or grease
- 4If the connector is intact but the fault remains, have a workshop replace the fuel pressure sensor, which contains the temperature sensor
Symptoms you may notice1
- Check engine light (MIL) on
What the fault can affect2
- The control module uses a predefined value for the fuel temperature
- The control module uses the signal from the engine coolant temperature sensor instead
