What does this fault code mean?
The ECM stores the intake, fuel and engine temperature readings at the instant the engine starts, then compares them. The code is set if the fuel temperature sensor value is below a certain limit compared with the others. The control module then uses a predefined value for the fuel temperature.
Possible causes
- Damaged fuel temperature sensor
- Contact resistance or oxidation in the connections
What you can do
- 1Read the code, clear it and road test the car to see whether it comes back
- 2If you have a diagnostic tool: read the temperature sensor values in live data at the moment the engine is started, since they are only compared at that point
- 3Check the connector at the fuel pressure sensor for contact resistance and oxidation; do not use rust solvent spray or grease
- 4If the connector is intact but the fault remains, have a workshop replace the fuel pressure sensor
Symptoms you may notice1
- Check engine light (MIL) on
What the fault can affect1
- The control module uses a predefined value for the fuel temperature
