What does this fault code mean?
The ECM reads the fuel temperature sensor signal, which monitors the fuel in the rail. The code is set when the signal is too low. The control module needs a usable value to work out the fuel temperature.
Possible causes
- Cable shorted to ground
- Damaged fuel temperature sensor
- Loose connection in the connectors
- Contact resistance or oxidation in the connections
- Open circuit in the signal wire
What you can do
- 1Read the code, clear it and road test the car to see whether it comes back
- 2Use a multimeter to check that the signal wire from the sensor is not shorted to ground
- 3Check that the connectors are firmly seated and free from oxidation, and that they do not lose contact when you move the wiring
- 4If the connectors and wire are intact, have a workshop replace the fuel pressure sensor, which contains the temperature sensor
Symptoms you may notice1
- Check engine light (MIL) on
What the fault can affect2
- Coolant temperature is used in place of fuel temperature
- A predefined value is used for the fuel temperature
