What does this fault code mean?
The ECM reads the fuel temperature sensor signal, which sits in the rail. The code is set when the signal is too high, with the ignition in position II and the engine running. The control module then uses the coolant temperature as a stand-in for the fuel temperature.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance or oxidation in the connections
- Open circuit in the signal or ground wire
- Wire shorted to supply voltage
- Damaged fuel temperature sensor
What you can do
- 1Read the code, clear it and road test the car to see whether it comes back
- 2Check the connector at the fuel pressure sensor for contact resistance and oxidation; do not use rust solvent spray or grease
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the signal and ground wires have no open circuit and that the signal wire has no contact with voltage
- 4If the connectors and wires are intact, have a workshop replace the fuel pressure sensor
Symptoms you may notice1
- Check engine light (MIL) on
What the fault can affect2
- Coolant temperature is used in place of fuel temperature
- A predefined value is used for the fuel temperature
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
