What does this fault code mean?
The control module (ECM) reads the fuel pressure in the low-pressure system from a fuel pressure sensor and checks the sensor's DC voltage. The code is set when the signal rises above the upper permitted limit, and the wrong value must be present in two or more drive cycles in a row. The fault can therefore arise even when the engine is not running.
Possible causes
- Open circuit in the signal or earth wire to the fuel pressure sensor
- Contact resistance or oxidation in the connections
- Signal wire shorted to voltage
- Damaged fuel pressure sensor
- Wires shorted to voltage
What you can do
- 1Read and clear the code, then run the engine to see whether it returns
- 2Check the connector at the fuel pressure sensor for looseness, oxidation and damage
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the signal wire has no voltage with the ignition on and that it has no break
- 4If you have a diagnostic tool: read the fuel pressure in live data and see whether the value changes when the engine is loaded
- 5If the fault remains after these checks, a workshop should check the sensor and its wiring
Symptoms you may notice1
- The Check engine lamp lights up or behaves abnormally
What the fault can affect2
- A fixed fuel pressure value is used
- The fuel pump is controlled with a constant signal
