What does this fault code mean?

The control module (ECM) measures the pressure in the fuel rail with a fuel pressure sensor and checks the sensor voltage. The code is set when the wrong value remains for two or more drive cycles in a row. The fault may show up as a lit environmental warning lamp and as the engine misfiring.

    Possible causes

    • Open circuit in the signal or earth wire
    • Contact resistance or oxidation in the connections
    • Signal wire shorted to voltage
    • Open circuit in the signal wire
    • Damaged fuel pressure sensor

    What you can do

    1. 1Check that the fuses are intact, especially those supplying the engine control and the fuel pump
    2. 2If you have a diagnostic tool: read the fuel rail pressure in live data and see whether the value follows the engine load
    3. 3Check the connector at the fuel pressure sensor for looseness, oxidation and damage
    4. 4Use a multimeter to check that the signal wire has no break and is not shorted to voltage or earth
    5. 5If the fault remains after these checks, a workshop should check the fuel pressure sensor and its wiring

    Symptoms you may notice2

    • The environmental warning lamp lights up
    • The engine misfires

    What the fault can affect2

    • A fixed fuel pressure value is used
    • The fuel pump is controlled with a constant signal

General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
