What does this fault code mean?
The control module (ECM) controls the fuel pressure through the fuel pump and the fuel pressure regulator valve, and monitors what the fuel pressure sensor sends. The code is set when pressure fails to respond as expected, or drifts away from its reference, while the engine is switched off, or when the signal from the sensor is missing.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance or oxidation in the connections to the fuel pressure regulator valve
- Clogged fuel filter
- Damaged fuel pressure regulator valve
- Damaged fuel pump
- Damaged fuel pressure sensor
- Open circuit in the signal wire
What you can do
- 1Check that the fuses are intact
- 2Read and clear the code, then run the engine to see whether it returns
- 3Check the connectors at the fuel pressure regulator valve and the fuel pressure sensor for looseness and oxidation
- 4If you have a diagnostic tool: read the fuel pressure in live data and see whether it changes when the engine is loaded
- 5If the fault remains, a workshop should check the fuel pump, the pressure regulator valve and the fuel filter
Symptoms you may notice3
- Message in the display together with a warning symbol
- Poor performance and lack of power
- The Check engine lamp lights up or behaves abnormally
What the fault can affect1
- The engine torque may be limited
