What does this fault code mean?
The control module (ECM) monitors the pressure on the high-pressure side of the fuel system. The code is set when the pressure from the sensor is unreasonably low, which may be caused by a leak in the fuel system, a damaged check valve on the low-pressure side of the pump, or a fault in the sensor or its wiring.
Possible causes
- Leak in the fuel system
- Contact resistance or oxidation in the connections
- Signal wire shorted to voltage
- Open circuit in the signal wire or the signal earth wire
- Damaged fuel pressure sensor
- Damaged check valve on the low-pressure side of the fuel pump
What you can do
- 1If there are other fault codes in the engine control system, deal with those first, as they may be the root cause
- 2Look for leaks, such as wet patches, on the hoses and connections on the high-pressure side
- 3Check the connector at the fuel pressure sensor on the high-pressure side for damage, oxidation and short circuits
- 4If you have a diagnostic tool: read the fuel pressure in live data straight after the ignition is switched on, and see whether it drops quickly when the engine is cold
- 5If the fault remains, a workshop should check the fuel pump, the check valve and the fuel pressure sensor
Symptoms you may notice5
- The engine does not start or is hard to start, especially when cold
- Uneven idle
- The engine hesitates or runs unevenly while driving
- Poor performance and lack of power
- The Check engine lamp lights up or behaves abnormally
