What does this fault code mean?
The control module (ECM) compares the engine oil temperature with the coolant temperature. If the two differ too much, this is interpreted as a fault in the oil temperature sensor and the code is set. The fault normally gives no noticeable symptoms for the driver.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance or oxidation in the connectors to the oil temperature sensor
- Open circuit in the signal wire
- Damaged oil temperature sensor
What you can do
- 1Read and clear the code, then see whether it returns after a while of driving
- 2Check that the fuses are intact
- 3Check the connector at the oil temperature sensor for looseness, oxidation and contact resistance
- 4Use a multimeter to check that the signal wire to the sensor has no break
- 5If you have a diagnostic tool: read the engine oil temperature and the coolant temperature in live data at the same time and compare them
Symptoms you may notice1
- No noticeable symptoms for the driver
