What does this fault code mean?
The control module (ECM) compares the oil temperature with the air temperature from the mass air flow sensor, the coolant temperature and the outside temperature. The code is set when the difference is too large and the signal from the sensor is too high.
Possible causes
- Signal wire shorted to voltage
- Damaged sensor for engine oil pressure and oil temperature
What you can do
- 1Check that the fuses are intact
- 2Read and clear the code, then start the engine to see whether it returns
- 3Check the combined oil pressure and oil temperature sensor connector for damage and oxidation
- 4Use a multimeter to check that the signal wire is not shorted to voltage
- 5If you have a diagnostic tool: read the oil temperature in live data and see whether it is high compared with the coolant temperature when the engine is warm
- 6If the fault remains, a workshop should check the sensor and its wiring
Symptoms you may notice1
- No noticeable symptoms for the driver
