What does this fault code mean?
The control module (ECM) keeps watch on the engine oil temperature through the oil temperature sensor. The code is set when the signal from the sensor is faulty and at a level that is too low for the control module.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance or oxidation in the connections
- Signal wire shorted to earth
- Open circuit in the earth wire
- Open circuit in the supply wire to the sensor
What you can do
- 1Check that the fuses are intact
- 2Read and clear the code, then see whether it returns after a while of driving
- 3Check the oil temperature sensor connector for contact resistance, oxidation and damage
- 4Use a multimeter to check that the earth and supply wires to the sensor have no break, and that the signal wire is not shorted to earth
- 5If the fault remains, a workshop with diagnostic equipment should check the sensor and its wiring
Symptoms you may notice1
- No noticeable symptoms for the driver
