What does this fault code mean?
The control module cross-checks the oil temperature sensor reading against the coolant temperature. The code is set when the difference between them becomes too large, which means the oil temperature sensor is giving an implausible signal. The fault normally gives no noticeable symptoms for the driver.
Possible causes
- Damaged oil temperature sensor
What you can do
- 1Check that the fuses are intact
- 2Read and clear the code, then start the engine to see whether it returns
- 3Check the oil temperature sensor connector for contact resistance and oxidation
- 4Use a multimeter to check that the signal wire is not shorted to earth or voltage
- 5If you have a diagnostic tool: compare the oil temperature in live data with the coolant temperature when the engine is warm
- 6If the fault remains, a workshop should check and, if needed, replace the oil temperature sensor
Symptoms you may notice1
- No noticeable symptoms for the driver
