What does this fault code mean?
The control module (ECM) reads the signal from the oil temperature sensor. The code is set when the signal is too high, which may be caused by a short to voltage or a poor connection. The control module then uses a model to work out the engine oil temperature.
Possible causes
- Oxidation and contact resistance in the connectors
- Signal wire shorted to voltage
- Damaged sensor for oil level and oil temperature
What you can do
- 1Check that the fuses are intact
- 2Read and clear the code, then see whether it returns after a while of driving
- 3Check the oil temperature sensor connector for oxidation and contact resistance
- 4Use a multimeter to check that the signal wire is not shorted to voltage
- 5If the fault remains, a workshop should check the sensor and its wiring
Symptoms you may notice1
- No noticeable symptoms for the driver
What the fault can affect1
- The control module works out the engine oil temperature using a model
