What does this fault code mean?
The control module (ECM) measures how quickly the rear lambda sensor on bank 1 switches from rich to lean. The code is set when the sensor reacts more slowly than expected during a fuel cut-off. It applies to the rear lambda sensor on bank 1 and is not set on vehicles with two lambda sensors.
Possible causes
- Sensor on bank 1 sensor 3 is damaged or contaminated
What you can do
- 1Read and clear the code, then drive the car for a while on the road to see whether it returns
- 2Look for visible contamination at the lambda sensor, such as oil, on the cable and at the connection
- 3If you have a diagnostic tool: read the lambda sensor signal in live data while driving and see whether it switches clearly between rich and lean when you lift off the accelerator
- 4If the fault remains, a workshop with diagnostic equipment should check the lambda sensor
