What does this fault code mean?
The control module (ECM) controls when the injector on cylinder 4 opens and closes, and for how long. The code is set when the control signal to the injector is out of range or absent, and cylinder 4 may then get too little or no injection.
Possible causes
- Loose connection in the connections
- Signal wire shorted to voltage
- Open circuit in the signal wire
- Open circuit in the voltage supply wire to the injector
- Signal wire shorted to earth
- Damaged injector
What you can do
- 1Check that the fuses are intact
- 2Read and clear the code, then start the engine to see whether it returns
- 3Check the connector to the injector on cylinder 4 for looseness and oxidation
- 4Use a multimeter to check that the wires to the injector on cylinder 4 have no break and are not shorted to earth or voltage
- 5If the fault remains, a workshop with diagnostic equipment should check the injector on cylinder 4 and the wires to it
Symptoms you may notice5
- The engine fails to start although cranking is normal
- Message in the display together with a warning symbol
- Poor performance and lack of power
- The engine hesitates or runs unevenly on acceleration or when slowing down
- The Check engine lamp lights up or behaves abnormally
What the fault can affect3
- Lambda control is blocked
- Injection on cylinder 4 stops
- Engine output and speed may be limited
