What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) has detected an open circuit in the wiring to the injector for cylinder 7. The code is set when the drive signal is above or below the expected level, or missing. The fault may be in the wire, the connector or the injector itself, and cylinder 7 may then lack fuel from its injector.
Possible causes
- Poor contact with raised resistance and oxidation in the injector connector
- Open circuit in the signal wire to the injector
- Signal wire shorted to voltage
- Open circuit in the supply voltage wire to the injector
- Damaged injector
What you can do
- 1Read and note the code, clear it and road test to see whether it returns
- 2If the engine will not start or every injector has a code, check that the fuse is intact. The fuse locations are shown in the owner's manual
- 3Check the connector at the cylinder 7 injector for loose fit, corrosion and moisture
- 4With a multimeter, check that the signal wire has no break and no short to ground or to positive
- 5If the fault remains, have a workshop measure the injector resistance and check the control circuit with diagnostic equipment
Symptoms you may notice3
- Malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) lit
- Engine not firing on all cylinders
- The engine cranks but will not fire
What the fault can affect1
- Fuel trim control is disabled, so the fuel mixture is no longer adjusted from the oxygen sensor signal
