What does this fault code mean?
Although the code is named switch B circuit, it applies to the signal from the accelerator pedal position sensor. The engine control module (ECM) checks the pedal signals, and the fault is set when the quality of the data received is too poor to be trusted.
Possible causes
- Open circuit in the signal wire
- Open circuit in the ground wire
What you can do
- 1Read the code, clear it and road test to see whether it returns
- 2Check that the fuses are intact. Fuse locations are shown in the owner's manual
- 3Check the accelerator pedal connector and harness for loose connections, corrosion and moisture
- 4Use a multimeter to check that the signal wire and the ground wire to the accelerator pedal have no break
- 5If you have a diagnostic tool: follow the accelerator pedal position in live data while pressing and releasing the pedal, and check that the value follows the movement smoothly
- 6If the fault remains, have a workshop check the accelerator pedal sensor and the central electronic module (CEM) with diagnostic equipment
Symptoms you may notice4
- Poor response from the accelerator pedal
- The car feels poor to drive, with reduced performance and lack of power
- The car hesitates, surges or runs jerkily
- Warning symbol and text message in the display
What the fault can affect2
- Engine output is limited
- If the brake pedal is pressed at the same time, the control module treats the accelerator pedal as released
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
