What does this fault code mean?
Although the code is named switch B circuit, it applies to the signal from the accelerator pedal position sensor. The signal stays low for a longer period and therefore does not follow the pedal movement. The fault is first registered in the central electronic module (CEM), so the root fault may be there.
Possible causes
- Signal wire shorted to ground
- Damaged accelerator pedal position sensor
- Fault in the central electronic module (CEM), which registers the fault first
What you can do
- 1Read the codes in all control modules, not only the engine control module. If a code is present in the CEM, deal with it first
- 2Check that the fuses are intact. Fuse locations are shown in the owner's manual
- 3Look at the accelerator pedal connector and wiring for loose connections, corrosion and chafed areas
- 4Use a multimeter to check that the signal wire from the pedal is not shorted to ground
- 5If you have a diagnostic tool: check whether the accelerator pedal position in live data stays at the same low value when the pedal is pressed
- 6If the fault remains after these checks, have a workshop check the CEM and the accelerator pedal sensor with diagnostic equipment. The code is only cleared once the root fault is fixed
Symptoms you may notice2
- Accelerator pedal ignored during braking
- Warning symbol and message in the display
What the fault can affect1
- When the brake pedal is pressed at the same time, the accelerator is treated as released
