What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) receives both a PWM signal and an analogue signal from the accelerator pedal position sensor. The fault is set when the PWM signal is incorrect or when the voltage from throttle potentiometer 2 is outside the permitted range. The fault can cause poor throttle response and a reduced top speed.
Possible causes
- Loose or high-resistance connections on the PWM signal wire
- Interference on the PWM signal wire
- Damaged accelerator pedal position sensor
- Damaged potentiometer 2 in the throttle unit
What you can do
- 1Read the code, clear it and road test to see whether it returns
- 2If you have a diagnostic tool: read the accelerator pedal position sensor signals in live data with the ignition on, and see whether they change when you press and release the pedal
- 3Check that the fuses are intact. Fuse locations are shown in the owner's manual
- 4Check the accelerator pedal connector and wiring for loose connections, contact resistance and oxidation
- 5Use a multimeter to check that the pedal signal wire has no loose contact or break
- 6If the fault remains, have a workshop check the accelerator pedal position sensor and potentiometer 2 in the throttle unit with diagnostic equipment
Symptoms you may notice4
- Message in the information display
- Poor response from the accelerator pedal
- Accelerator pedal ignored when braking
- Warning symbol and text message in the display
What the fault can affect2
- Engine output is limited
- The maximum vehicle speed is reduced
