System
Engine Control Module (ECM)
Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
2 modelsS80 (2007–), V70 (2008–)
Show models by year and engine (2)
What does this fault code mean?
The ECM monitors the charge air cooler bypass valve. The fault is set when the PWM signal between the control module and the bypass valve is incorrect, or when the end-stage for the valve, which is built into the control module, registers too high a temperature. The code indicates a circuit fault, meaning an open circuit in the valve control.
Possible causes
- Bypass valve is sticking or jammed
- Damaged bypass valve
What you can do
- 1Read the code, clear it and road test to see whether it returns
- 2Check that the fuses are intact. Fuse locations are shown in the owner's manual
- 3Look at the bypass valve and its connector for loose connections, chafing and moisture
- 4If you have a diagnostic tool: activate the bypass valve and check that it moves freely and responds
- 5Use a multimeter to check that the wire to the bypass valve is not broken or shorted to ground or positive
- 6If the fault remains, have a workshop check the bypass valve with diagnostic equipment and replace it if needed
Symptoms you may notice1
- The check engine lamp comes on or behaves abnormally
