What does this fault code mean?
The ECM monitors the boost pressure sensor signal. The fault is set when the signal stays above a certain value for a set time. It points to a signal fault in the sensor or its wiring.
Possible causes
- Loose contact, contact resistance or oxidation in the connections
- Signal wire shorted to voltage
- Open circuit in the signal wire
- Open circuit in the signal ground wire
- Damaged boost pressure sensor
What you can do
- 1Read the code, clear it and road test to see whether it returns
- 2With a diagnostic tool, read boost pressure in live data at idle; an unreasonably high value with the engine calm points to the sensor
- 3Check that the fuses are intact. Fuse locations are shown in the owner's manual
- 4Look at the boost pressure sensor connector for oxidation and loose connections
- 5Use a multimeter to check that the signal wire to the boost pressure sensor is not shorted to positive and that the ground wire is not broken
- 6If the fault remains, have a workshop check the boost pressure sensor with diagnostic equipment
Symptoms you may notice2
- The check engine lamp comes on or behaves abnormally
- Poor performance and lack of power while driving
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
