What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) controls boost pressure by sending a signal to the turbo control valve. The fault is set when turbo system boost is excessive. The cause may be a leak in the intake, blocked hoses or a damaged turbo control valve.
Possible causes
- Air leak in the intake system
- Blocked hoses to the turbocharger or the turbo control valve
- Damaged turbo control valve
What you can do
- 1Read the code, clear it and road test to see whether it returns
- 2With the engine at idle, listen for a hissing sound from the intake, which can point to an air leak
- 3Look at the hoses to the turbocharger and turbo control valve for blockages, kinks and loose connections
- 4If you have a diagnostic tool: activate the turbo control valve and check that it clicks as it operates
- 5If the fault remains, have a workshop check the turbo control valve with diagnostic equipment
Symptoms you may notice3
- The check engine lamp comes on or behaves abnormally
- Warning symbol and text message in the display
- The car feels poor to drive, with reduced performance and lack of power
What the fault can affect2
- Engine torque is limited
- Control of exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) is lost
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
