What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) compares the boost pressure sensor signal with atmospheric pressure, which it receives from an atmospheric pressure sensor built into the control module. The fault is set when the signal is too high, too low, erratic or implausible, or when boost and atmospheric pressure differ too much with the ignition on.
Possible causes
- Damaged boost pressure sensor
- Contact resistance or oxidation in the connections to the boost pressure sensor
What you can do
- 1Read the code, clear it and road test to see whether it returns
- 2If you have a diagnostic tool: read the boost pressure and the atmospheric pressure in live data with the ignition on. The two values should be close to each other
- 3Check that the fuses are intact. Fuse locations are shown in the owner's manual
- 4Look at the boost pressure sensor connector for oxidation, chafing and loose connections
- 5Use a multimeter to check that the signal wire to the boost pressure sensor is not shorted to ground or positive
- 6If the fault remains, have a workshop check the boost pressure sensor with diagnostic equipment
Symptoms you may notice3
- Rough idle
- The car feels poor to drive, with reduced performance and lack of power
- The check engine lamp comes on or behaves abnormally
What the fault can affect2
- A calculated boost pressure is used instead of the measured value
- Fuel adaptation is blocked
