What does this fault code mean?
The boost pressure sensor reads inside its usual band, but it is lower than the value the engine control module (ECM) calculates from atmospheric pressure. The fault therefore means the sensor reading does not match what is expected, not that the signal is outside its range.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance or oxidation in the connections
- Boost pressure sensor is loose
- Damaged boost pressure sensor
What you can do
- 1Read the code, clear it and road test to see whether it returns
- 2Check that the boost pressure sensor is fitted securely in its mount and has not worked loose
- 3Look at the sensor connector for oxidation and loose connections
- 4If you have a diagnostic tool: read boost pressure in live data with the ignition on and compare it with atmospheric pressure. The two should agree
- 5If the fault remains, have a workshop check and, if needed, replace the boost pressure sensor with diagnostic equipment
Symptoms you may notice2
- The malfunction indicator lamp comes on
- The car performs worse than usual
What the fault can affect1
- Boost pressure is limited
