What does this fault code mean?
The boost pressure sensor reads inside its usual band but higher than the boost pressure the engine control module (ECM) calculates. The fault therefore means the sensor reading does not match what is expected, not that the signal lies outside its range.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance or oxidation in the connections
- Damaged boost pressure sensor
What you can do
- 1Read the code, clear it and road test to see whether it returns
- 2Look at the boost pressure sensor connector for oxidation, chafing and loose connections
- 3Make sure the boost pressure sensor sits properly and has not come loose from its mount
- 4If you have a diagnostic tool: read boost pressure in live data at idle and see whether the value is unreasonably high for how the engine is running
- 5If the fault remains, have a workshop check the boost pressure sensor with diagnostic equipment
Symptoms you may notice2
- The malfunction indicator lamp comes on
- The car performs worse than usual
What the fault can affect1
- Boost pressure is limited
